ABSTRACT: The impact of virtual internships on vocational education engagement has become increasingly relevant in the digital age. This study aimed to: (1) explore how virtual internships influence student engagement in vocational education, (2) assess the effectiveness of virtual internships in providing practical experience, and (3) identify challenges and opportunities associated with virtual internships. A survey research design was utilized to gather insights from students, educators, and employers involved in virtual internships. The sample size comprised 200 respondents selected through purposive sampling from Rivers State. The case study focused on a polytechnic implementing virtual internship programs. Findings demonstrated that virtual internships significantly enhanced student engagement and provided valuable practical experience, though technical challenges and limited hands-on activities were noted. Recommendations included improving virtual internship platforms, enhancing support systems, and incorporating hybrid models that combine virtual and in-person experiences.
